Sometimes, the opportunity arises to go on an extended exploration of a subject. Somewhere, Arizona, was the result of such a trip. I lived in a trailer park in the Mohave Desert for a few weeks to become familiar with the daily lives of the residents before being welcomed in as part of their family and eventually being allowed to photograph them without hesitation.

Orissa Tribals is part of an ongoing project studying several indigenous tribes of  Orissa, India, collectively known as “adivasi.” In this “tribal odyssey” I document body ornamentation used in tribal rites of passage, and tribe/family and trade insignia (tattoos) used to establish a sense of belonging/group identity.
